Host Team

Deputy Head of Host Team - Rizwan Khalid

Rizwan Khalid (a.k.a. khush ho?) in his senior year, is the Deputy Head of Host team (HOHT) along with Ahmad Tariq. He has been actively involved in LUMUN for 3 years. He has worked in the Admin department and was a part of the group going to Mumbai, India but he backed out later.

His active participation has put LUMUN as a whole on a strong footing this year reinforced by his hard working habits. Popularly known for his administration skills, Rizwan has been strict and unpredictable enough to raise ears (to give the shock and awe effect) which has lead him to make all the directors work for LUMUN '08. So beware, delegates (just kidding)!

For one you got to be sure, that you can count on Rizwan whatsoever problems you come across during the conference.

So we can wish you all a good time at LUMUN '08 and enjoy to the max!

Deputy Head of Host Team - Ahmad Tariq

Ahmad Tariq (a.k.a. AT), in his final year of BSc, has been with LUMUN for 3 years now. Apart from MUN activities, his recent stints in previous LUMUN conferences were in the Security and later in the Visa & Protocol departments. Recently, he was a part of a 7-member group for a peace mission to Mumbai, India.

Currently, he is Deputy Head of Host Team for LUMUN 2008, being directly responsible for pushing the HOHT and the Directors all together to work towards the challenging objective to make LUMUN 2008 a bigger success this time.

With Ali Jafri heading the Host Team, responsibilities have been split between Ahmad and Rizwan, the 2nd Deputy HOHT, to assist the Conference this time around with higher efficiency and better management so that we can bring you a better and an increasingly problem-free environment at LUMUN 2008 this year.

With all due respect, we hope that by the time you get nearer to the start of LUMUN 2008, you would count on our Head of Host Team and the Deputies HOHT to help you with any issues you have.

We wish you the best of luck to make this world a better place with your active participation as diplomats. =)

Director IT - Talal Munzar

Talal Munzar is a junior year student at LUMS. Along with assisstant directors Rabi Javed and Khizer Khalid, Talal will be responsible for the IT related issues for LUMUN'08 which include managing this very website, the online registration system and the bar-coding system that is to be introduced at the conference this year. As the website and registration system has already been put up, the bulk of the work will now involve implementing the barcode system. The IT department is not in the immediate need of any volunteers, but will welcome anyone who feels he/she can offer something valuable to the department.

Director Creativity - Yahya Hussain

Yahya Hussain, more familiarly known as Bubu in recognition of his smallish stature and his likeness to the bear of Hanna-Barbara fame, spends his time at LUMS, when not in search of picnic baskets, studying insanely complicated mathematical models that describe the very simplest of things and were all worked out long before he was born, reading things that don't matter, then writing papers saying they do matter, for points that don't matter, in order to get a job doing something totally unrelated.

While fortunate enough to never have to sport Bubu bear's characteristic bow tie, his rise to the top began in Human Resources at LUMUN07, where his work involved finding people to do all the work. Over the year, instead of basking in the irony of his starting job, he wandered over to the Creativity Department. Having discovered his rightful realm, he and his department will be bringing all the color this year to LUMUN. Responsible for all the printing and more significantly, adding all the zest to printing, the snazzy designs on this website, the delegate guide, folders, banners, mugs, t-shirts, etc. are the brainchildren of him and his department.

Yahya now in his final year at LUMS has achieved a lot over this time period. He is the President of the LUMS Computer Gaming Association, an accomplished skiier, a qualified para-glider and record holder of the fastest goal scored in a LUMS Football Tournament. He likes to spend his time watching series and coming up with cunning new plans. But be warned spending time with him will lead to a large loss of brain cells. Approach subject with caution. :D

Director External Accommodation & Transport - Ali Mukhtar Chaudhary

Ali Mukhtar Chaudhary is a third year student doing his Bsc (Hons) at LUMS. He is heading the external accomodation and transport department with Agha Ali Raza as his assistant director. His department will be responsible for accomodating those participants of lumun '08 who are not internally accomodated in LUMS. These students will be accomodated in Hotels/rest houses near LUMS. The department would also provide transport services to these students to facilitate them in coming to LUMS for the conference and going back to their assigned hotels at night. In addition transport will be provioded to departments of lumun '08 on a need basis. This department will be needing both male and female volunteers around 8-10.

Beenish Maqsood, from class of 2010, is a part of lumun since past one and a half years. She is Director External Relations (ER) for LUMUN 08. Director Logistics - Aaiz Haider Khan

One of the few people at lums(or maybe the only one) who in his three years experimented with three different majors. He plans to be a lawyer but due to reasons only he can explain he is currently doing a math major. The person who has to ensure that all venues are up and running when needed.Whatever they want, He is the person the entire host team relies on- from printing tshirts to bringing water for committee directors during the sessions. And in his efforts to do this he has to listen to the admin telling him everyday to come again the next day .Few have enough patience for a job like this and so for his sake, we all hope the next day comes soon:P

Director Media - Asim Fayaz

From getting LUMUN host team safely through the hassle of marketing in the media from helping the brave Social Responsibility team,we,the LUMUN 08 Media Team will just do about anything to assure the success of the event. The team members have been selected and sieved through dozens of applicants to ensure that only the best to do the job are selected for it,hence promising to turn everything they touch into gold. Director Publications - Rabia Malik

Rabia is a senior at LUMS and is majoring in Politics & Economics with a Mathematics minor. She has been a LUMUN member since her sophomore year where she worked as a member of the Publications Department for the first time. Ever since, her commitment to LUMUN has been based primarily on her interest in writing and making people laugh through the sarcastic humour of the conference newsletters. She also spends the rest of her days as the President of the "Publications @ LUMS" society which handles the only quarterly student magazine about LUMS as well as the annual Yearbook, amongst other publications. Her truest and dearest passion lies on the tennis courts, though, where she can be found almost every evening slugging away diligently and uncomplainingly, trying to learn the game for which she is also the girls' team captain.

Publications Department:

Despite being one of those departments lacking in overt glamour and potential for spotlight attention, the Publications Department is one of the most essential and exciting parts of LUMUN each year because it's responsible for providing comic relief and lighter moments to the delegates and host team alike, which it unfailingly does each year through its daily newsletters. These coloured pages contain any and all hilarious details of the daily happenings and fluffs that seem to dot the campus each year when throngs of delegates enter the gates of LUMS, eager in their search for adventure and glory at LUMUN. Being part of the department means a lot of commitment and sleepless nights during the actual conference, though, because completing each newsletter often means working throughout the night when the rest of the world is catching up on much-needed rest. Last year, the Publications Department also introduced the Independent Committee of Journalists (ICJ) for the first time ever, which gave a chance to aspiring writers and journalists amongst the delegates to get a whiff of serious reporting. Each "journalist" sits in one committee and submits a report on the day's proceedings at the conclusion of the day's sessions; these reports are then used to make the daily Press Release that is sent to several leading newspapers across the country. This year we hope to welcome more journalists to the ICJ, create a separate publication for the best reports and give these youngsters a taste of what the real thing feels like.

Director Registration - Ali Abbas

In July of this year, he was sent as part of a 7-member peace mission to Mumbai, India. For this year’s LUMUN, he takes on the responsibility of chairing the IAEA along with heading the Registration Department. The Registration Department dispatches invitations to a wide-ranging array of institutions countrywide, maintains correspondence with applicants, interacts with the secretariat in allocating countries and committees to delegations and organizes the generation of revenue for LUMUN, thus forming the backbone of the conference. With a team of exceptionally dedicated Assistant Directors in the form of Ayesha Waqar, Ali Asghar Hamid, Tooba Akhtar and Mehjabeen Zameer, Ali hopes to bring to fruition his aim of streamlining the registration process while institutionalizing it in a manner that provides sustenance and gradual improvements to the procedure. Envisioning LUMUN as a force in the future requires its various arms to be developed in a framework of institutional sustainability and stability. This year’s LUMUN couches enhanced quality as its essence and in this vein, the Registration Department hopes to see all you (quality) delegates, at LUMUN ’08!

Director Security - Abdul Rahim Malik

He has been given a task which can be extremely difficult at times but is full of fun. Handling the security department is a tough job but he is a responsible person who can be trusted. He is calm and impartial, that’s why he has been given this job. His job description includes an overall coordination with each and every department and organizing security throughout the conference. Moreover he is responsible for writing down the security code of conducts and contingency plans. It is his department which is responsible for implementing curfews at night if need arises. Delegate entry privileges and restricting entry to relevant personnel comes under his job. Last but not the least comes the overall coordination at the social events, it is his department which is the responsible for checking tickets and passes on all social events.

Director Social Responsibiity - Nadia Ahmad

LUMUN has created a new department this year, Social Responsibility, which aims to familiarize the delegates with the plight of the less privileged population of Pakistan. The Social Responsibility Department, in collaboration with the Media Department, will make videos on various subjects (health, education, children's education, and related topics) and air them in the committee sessions. The director, Nadia Ahmad, is in her last year in the LLB program at LUMS and has been working with LUMUN for the past four years.

Director Visa, Protocol and Int'l Delegatess - Bilal Bawany

The Visa, Protocol and Intl' Delegates team consists of 4 people; a director and 3 assistant directors. Its one of the most interesting and rewarding departments in the LUMUN host team as it deals with all facets concerning the prospective international delegates. The Director Bilal Bawany along with his team of Hammad Ehtesham, Asad Farooq and Arsalan Ahmed have been working since June to try to bring as many foriein delegates as possible, starting off from marketing the event to correspondence with embassies, dealing with the red tape in the visa process,to ensuring adequate protocol, planning excursions and post conference trips etc etc..

To help us manage and entertain our guests we will require dedicated and reliable volunteers that will be willing to spend long hours to ensure that the international delegates have a memorable and comfortable experience. Trust us, you will have a great time working and interacting with the different types international delegates ranging from our Indian neighbors to our newly acquainted swiss associates ;) and will definitely end up with llots of new friends .A balanced gender ratio and volunteers with their own cars will be preferred

The LUMUN social events have been the main highlight of the flagship lumun conference since its inception in 2004. It is LUMUN's biggest department and is responsible for ensuring that the delegates have a fantastic time after a hard day's work so that they feel justly rewarded. The social events are also necessary for delegates' interaction amongst themselves as well as with the host team. Together with Bilal Qadir Shah, she is determined to make the social events this year the best ever in the history of LUMUN. Not only that, but both aim to bring in MORE social events than before without compromising on any quality whatsoever.

Muhammad Bilal Qadir Shah:

Muhammad Bilal Qadir Shah is the other Director of the social events department. Bilal is currently a Junior working towards a major in Economics. Not only is he handling such a huge post for LUMUN 2008, he is also a member of the RadioLUMS Executive Council in the form of Director Marketing and Treasurer. He has also been an event manager for LUMS Olympiad 2007 and Coordinator Workshops for LUMS Olympiad 2008. Apart from that, he has been a LUMUN member since his freshman year in 2006. Bilal and Sabeen are working very hard towards making those ideas a reality and ensuring something new and exciting for all our participants as well as the host team this year.
