The Independent Committee of Journalists (ICJ)
LUMUN 2008 presents...
The Independent Committee of Journalists (ICJ)
Note: ICJ representatives are not counted in Delegation limits
So you thought all you can do at LUMUN is represent a country as a delegate? Well, guess again! This time you might just have something more to do.
We have a unique opportunity for all those individuals out there who just cannot be satisfied with writing working papers, amendments and resolutions alone at the conference; individuals who have a sound knowledge of the global political scene but don’t want to limit this knowledge to arguing for a country’s stance. And individuals who are seeking a little more excitement from the whole experience of the MUN-ing.
The host team for LUMUN 2008 is proud to announce the “Independent Committee of Journalists”. Under this little association we will hire a team of 15 people (one journalist for each committee) who will perform as correspondents to report on the working of the committee sessions. They will be allowed chances to speak if they wish to be a part of the debate at any point but their main role is to be that of neutral observers. They will work on a daily basis; the best reports will be circulated within the conference and be part of the daily press releases from the committees.
Interested individuals should have:
a) Prior experience and proficiency in writing.
b) Strong interest in the issues being discussed at the UN and, in particular, understanding of the agenda of the committee they will be sitting in.
c) Commitment to give in extra time to compiling and writing these reports (which will obviously be written after the end of each day’s committee session).
d) A willingness to work as a team.
This will be an exceptional chance for those who want to practice their technical writing skills while gathering a multifaceted view of the global issues discussed at the MUN conference. It is a post that will not only cater to your own personal interests but will also help you get valuable experience of reporting for a large scale international conference. And of course it comes along with the opportunity to be the part of a conference that brings together and allows the interaction of hundreds of socially and politically aware students from around the globe.
To apply for one of the posts of the ICJ, just send in an application to rmalik87@gmail.com by the 17th of November 2008 along with a statement of interest as to why you wish to apply. Also send in details of your prior writing experience and a writing sample. This sample should be brief (not more than 400 words) and preferably journalistic in nature because this is technical writing rather than creative.
Good Luck!
Regards,
The Publications team
LUMUN’08.
