The LUMS Model UN society (LUMUN) is a student society at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) that aims to inculcate an understanding of the United Nations and international affairs amongst Pakistani youth.
Our team has had the honor of thrice being ranked the 'Best Delegation' in the world at the Harvard World MUN held in Mexico in 2008, Switzerland in 2007 & China in 2006, where we were competing against the world's leading universities including MIT, Princeton, Yale, Oxford, Cambridge, etc.
LUMUN, realizing its role of pioneers of MUN in Pakistan, has decided to take a further step towards creating a comprehensive MUN culture in Pakistan by introducing formal MUN Training Sessions for prospective delegates and faculty advisors.
Training sessions will be held in all major cities and delegates are highly encouraged to attend. In order to ensure MUNing of high caliber this year, these training sessions have been made mandatory for all schools wishing to take part in LUMUN 2008.
The Training Session for Karachi will be held at Beaconhouse, Jubilee Campus on 23rd Aug 2008, from 9am to 12pm. The three hour training session for students will be followed by a one hour Training and Discussion Session for Faculty Advisors at the same venue, from 12 pm to 1pm, where we will advise faculty on how best to prepare their students.
Training Sessions for Lahore & Islamabad will be held in Mid-September, keep visiting the website for Details, or visit LUMUN 2008 facebook group.
Each school is expected to send a minimum of 6-8 prospective delegates for this training session. It will be greatly preferred if these delegates are accompanied by a faculty advisor. LUMUN will maintain a list of those schools that have attended training sessions and they will be given preference in registration over those schools that have not attended training sessions. Moreover, country allotment will also be based on this list, and students will get to interact with future delegates and their prospective committee chairs.
The training session will focus on the following aspects of MUN:
• Introduction to MUN
• Rules of procedure
• Research Methodology
• Diplomatic Negotiations
• Public Speaking
• Working papers & Notes
• Resolution writing & Amendments
It would be greatly appreciated if your institution could RSVP to this event by writing to us at lumun.training@gmail.com and listing the names and number of delegates that will be expected to attend, as well as the name of their faculty advisor. This confirmation of your attendance would be most beneficial to us if we received it latest by 10th August 2008, so we can make arrangements accordingly.
We look forward to your participation in the MUN Training Session and in LUMUN ’08.
